A GLIMPSE AT THE SCHEDULE
So you can start thinking about your plans for the Mile of Music Festival, here’s a snapshot of how the days will play out (see full schedule):
THURSDAY, AUGUST 8
Thursday will be a lighter day, but will still offer some great music to kick things off. It’ll start with ADI’s Lunchtime Live concert in Houdini Plaza featuring Patchouli, an original music duo. It’ll continue with a handful of venues in the afternoon, then the Heid Music Summer Concert Series in Houdini Plaza featuring Greg Waters & The Broad Street Boogie, with a special appearance by Cory Chisel. After that free public show, there will be 8 to 10 band performances at venues along the Avenue to officially launch the inaugural Mile of Music.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 9 and SATURDAY, AUGUST 10
These will be the two main days of the Festival, with original music (remember, it’s a “Cover-Free Zone”) from artists who are coming from all corners of the country. Music will be featured at a couple of dozen venues on both days, running from noon to midnight!
SUNDAY, AUGUST 11
Sunday also will be a lighter day, with an emphasis on children and family music (still original!) and music education activities featuring some of our Mile of Music bands. Look for some special activities involving The Building for Kids, The Building for the Arts and Harmony Cafe, led by our amazing and talented friends at Lawrence University. Plus, there will be a few final Mile of Music band performances as well. Sunday’s also the day we’re keeping a bit open for any surprises that might come our way in terms of bands who want to play the Festival or jam sessions that might spring up!
Oh, and as you make your plans, please remember that, because the vast majority of Mile of Music shows are at inside venues, the performance aspect of the Festival is largely “weather-proof” (but still cross your fingers for good weather so we can really show off the walkability features of our amazing mile of downtown!).
