Weather Updates: August 7

Posted Aug 6, 2021
Blog

6:55 p.m. August 7th

Well, we gave it a shot. For those who were able to enjoy outdoor sets, we hope you enjoyed them. Huge thanks to our volunteers who jumped in at a moment’s notice to help open these venues.
Lightning is not something we can take ANY chances with when it comes to artists, techs, and you – our festival fans. After multiple visible lightning sightings we needed to make a decision to suspend the sets of music we were hoping to keep going tonight.
Here’s what we can update on now:
  • All outdoor venues have been suspended for the remainder of the night (August 7).
  • If you do choose to come downtown, please remember that many indoor venues are already very busy. We don’t want to see music fans standing outside in potentially hazardous weather.
Thank you for your patience & support!

4:16: p.m. August 7th

We’re going to give it a try, safely, at the four fully covered outdoor venues:
-Washington Square (87 Nights at 3:55 – RIGHT NOW!)
-Jones Park (Sarah Potenza at 4:30)
-McFleshman’s (Billy Bronsted & The Loot at 4:10 -RIGHT NOW)
-D2 (Lukr at 4:30).
Our sound techs will be monitoring the incoming weather cells and will suspend the music at these venues the moment it is deemed necessary.
Although music may be running, our volunteers have been on standby, so there may be a slight delay when it comes to wristband/tickets & beverage sales. Please be patient with volunteers & venue staff (now & always)!

3:00: p.m. August 7th

Hey Mile Fans! We’re keeping you in the weather loop as we promised we would. Currently, our outdoor shows remain suspended, as a second larger cell is entering our area from the west. As a result, our indoor venues are nearing or at capacity. Please take note of this if you are planning to come down to the festival this afternoon. We don’t want our music fans waiting outside our venues in the rain.
We will continue to keep you updated as to when or if our outdoor venue schedule will resume.
Music Education Team rain sites are GO for Mariachi at 4 (relocated to LU Conservatory 156)
Samba at 5(canceled).

2:17 p.m. August 7th

Looking for schedule changes with today’s weather updates? Keep a few things in mind:
  • We do NOT have access to send out push notifications this year. This will be back in 2022.
  • The Mile of Music app (App Store & Google Play) will have the most up-to-date schedule. The website is still showing outdoor venues, and we do not have a way to change this at this time. So again, please use the APP for the most updated schedule.
  • Indoor venues are still operating.
  • We will have updates as soon as possible. Our team is huddling right now!

12:00 p.m. August 7th

The following Music Education sets have moved to these locations:

Indonesian Angklung – Lawrence University (Conservatory 163)

The Art-istry of Music – Heid Music (Upstairs Education Lobby)

Songwriting with Wade Fernandez – Heid Music (Upstairs Education Lobby)

Ghanaian Drumming & Dance – Lawrence University (Conservatory 163)

Ukulele: Learn Now, Smile Forever! – Heid Music (Upstairs Education Lobby)

11:07 a.m. August 7th

Hey festival-goers! It’s looking like we aren’t going to dodge the rain as we have the last two days. The Mile Team is making the tough call to officially delay & suspend the start of all outdoor stages until we know that this storm cell either comes through or dissipates. We will be giving regular updates as the day progresses.

Outdoor Stages:

Jones Park

Washington Square

Spats at The Core

Emmett’s

Red Lion Hotel Paper Valley

Houdini Plaza

Bazil’s Pub Patio

D2 Sports Pub Patio

Fox River House

Heid Music

Jim’s Place/Wooden Nickel

McFleshman’s Brewing Co.

Mondo! Patio

Riverside Bar & Grill

Rookie’s Sports Bar & Grill

Stone Arch Brewpub Patio

The Grove

The Listening Lawn

These are always tough calls, but we will always err on the safe side for our artists, sound techs and fans. Thank you for your understanding and keep thinking good vibes!

Not raining at Lawrence on green and we are here

We had to make a decision based on the forecast. Not our favorite thing to do as we know things can change!

Delays or cancelations? Will the app be updated once adjustments are made? Thank you!!

  • Vc says:

When can we expect an update on when/if outdoor venues will resume?

Do we know when outside will start up again?

  • Mike says:

So what is the update, been 3 hours and have not seen anything

  • Mike OBrien says:

Start the show. Packed outdoor venue with a roof. No lightning. What’s the issue?

    • Mile of Music Festival says:

Lightning is in the forecast, and we have lots of sound equipment, instruments, etc. to keep in mind.

  • Doris Beck says:

Will D2 be open at 7:20 pm do you know?
