Organizers of Mile of Music announced Tuesday they anticipate record-breaking attendance this summer when the four-day celebration of singer-songwriters and bands who play original music is staged for the ninth time at 40 venues on the one-mile stretch of Downtown Appleton. Officials confirmed the festival will be held the first full weekend of August, with music beginning Thursday, August 4 and continuing through Sunday, August 7.
At an open house announcement event marking 100 days before the Festival’s first day on August 4, The Mile Team, as has become tradition with the launch announcement, also introduced music fans to the “First 50” artists set to play the event. The initial group of artists includes original indie and roots acts from 17 states, with 15 hailing from Nashville and seven from New York state. It features artists from Canada and, for the first time, an artist from overseas – The Black Feathers, a husband-and-wife duo from the UK.
The majority of artists coming to Downtown Appleton and the Fox Cities this summer will be announced over the next 4-6 weeks, with nearly 200 original performers set to be included in this year’s event. About 40% of the lineup will be performers from Wisconsin, including local Fox Cities originals. Mile of Music is one of the few large music festivals that strictly spotlights lesser-known singer-songwriters and bands or, as organizers label them, “indie artists who aren’t household names but should be.”
