Aside from 200 emerging Americana artists playing their own original music, Mile of Music offers many festival exclusives that you definitely won’t want to miss!
Mile of Music has its own beer- the ‘Americana Pale Ale’ handcrafted from Stone Arch Brew House. The beer will be available at Jones Park and Houdini Plaza during main stage shows and at various venues throughout Downtown Appleton. Six-packs are available while supplies last at Appleton-area grocery stores and at Stone Cellar Brewpub. (Must be 21+ to consume. Please consume responsibly!)
New this year, Mile of Music candy bars from Crazy Sweet (201 W College Ave). Proceeds from the Mile of Music candy bars go to helping the Mile of Music Education Team. Fun prizes from local businesses are hidden inside each wrapper, and one lucky winner will find the “Golden Ticket” – two Mile of Music Music-Maker passes! (Note: Passes may have been found by time of publication. Candy bars available while supplies last.)
The Mile of Music Education Team is part of the Appleton Education Foundation, operating within the Appleton Area School District. Fifteen dedicated music educators with a diverse background entice the community with music workshops during Mile of Music. (See below for Music Workshop information.)
Free music workshops, also through the Mile of Music education Team, take place during Mile 3 and include: Brazilian samba, singer-songwriter clinics with festival artists, gahu (African drumming), gamelean (Indonesian Java and Bali music), didgeridoo (indigenous wind instrument) and many, many more. These workshops are a great way to get people of all ages, all skill levels, and all abilities involved in the community and music!
The alleyway next to The History Museum at the Castle will ditch the boring blank alley wall during Mile 3 and be turned into a beautiful art mural. In addition to the wall art, the Art Alley is a Mile of Music venue, featuring seven performances by seven different musicians on Friday August 7th and Saturday August 8th. Check out our blog on more art galleries at Mile 3!
Valley Transit, a proud sponsor of Mile of Music, not only offers free public transportation up and down College Avenue during Mile of Music, it also doubles as a venue- ‘the band wagon’. It’s free rides and free music from surprise Mile 3 artists on Thursday, Friday and Saturday! (Note: Only the Mile of Music Bus offers free transportation.)
Dine in Downtown Appleton on the mile and you may be visited with a surprise performance by a Mile 3 artist.
No cover charge, no cover bands, and no cover songs! Mile of Music is a cover free zone, featuring all original music. Venues are not permitted to charge cover fees and bands are required to promote and play their own original music. It doesn’t get much better than that!
