Appleton’s Downtown – an amazing mile of safe, walkable and hospitable experiences – is the host of Mile of Music. The Mile has so much to offer, from craft shops to restaurants, cafes, and bars, all exhibiting the original, hand-crafted flavor that makes Appleton unique. Come join us for the full Mile of Music weekend, August 2-5, 2018, to experience Appleton at its best.
Mile of Music is a cover-free zone, which has a dual-meaning. We’re all about original, hand-crafted artistry, and we’re eager to serve up singer-songwriters, combos and multi-piece bands showcasing Americana music at its very best. The festival features hundreds of artists with musical backgrounds from roots and indie rock to country, soul, R&B, jazz and folk, all performing their own original music. And you know what the best part is? It’s all FREE. Plus, there are plenty of free, hands-on Music Education Team events available for all ages throughout the festival to awaken your inner musician.
In just five years, the community’s overwhelming support of Mile of Music in the Fox Cities has brought an indescribable vibe to Downtown Appleton. This support has helped to illuminate our community on the worldwide map as a go-to destination for original artistry and handcrafted music. The first four years of growth and continued success – buoyed by over 100 gracious sponsors, Music-Makers, and tourism grants from the Fox Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Wisconsin Department of Tourism – have created something truly special while laying the foundation for a remarkably unique event for years to come.
We’re back for Mile 6 – August 2-5, 2018, ready to provide memorable experiences through music! Mile 6 will offer close to 1,000 live music performances, 230+ artists, and 70+ venues, all on 1 great MILE OF MUSIC!

Profits from the Mile of Music Festival support two funds:
The Mile of Music Education Fund, within the Appleton Education Foundation, funds more music opportunities within the Appleton public schools.
Creative Downtown Appleton, Inc. provides seed money for projects that will help color our creative economy and keep Downtown Appleton strong, vibrant, and creative!
Mile of Music is a civic organization, not a nonprofit. All profits, after expenses, will be split between the two funds noted above. All contributions are considered as sponsorships, not tax-deductible donations. Should you wish to make a tax-deductible donation directly to the Mile of Music Education Fund or the Creative Downtown Appleton Fund, you can do so.
