March 1
Hayward Williams (Waukesha, WI): Singer-songwriter from Milwaukee with a smooth and booming voice. His most recent album, The Reef, was released in 2014.
J. Hardin (Alton, IL): John Everett Hardin was raised in a small Mississippi River town, he eventually settled down in Wisconsin He released two albums and extensively toured the U.S. under the name Everett Thomas, where he appeared in numerous television spots, and shared the stage with acts such as Gregory Alan Isakov, Over The Rhine, and Sara Watkins.
March 8
John Paul Roney of Boom Forest (Baraboo, WI): Boom Forest is the spiritual incarnation of John Paul Roney, a Nashville-based songwriter and an evangelist for a contemporary folk tradition forwarding humanism in the face of our looming techno-apocalypse. Begin with the acoustic introspection of Bob Dylan, add artful electronic production cues a la Kid A, and layer in multi-part harmonies that would be at home in a Southern Baptist choir, and you’re on your way into the sound Boom Forest makes from the automated woods of Tomorrow.
March 15
The Kate Bloods: Frank Anderson & Susan Howe (Fox Cities): The Kate Bloods, named after Appleton’s most celebrated grave site, are Frank Anderson on double 8 string steel guitar and Susan Howe on guitar and vocals.
March 22
Charlie Parr (Duluth, MN): An easily confused and very shy individual, Charlie Parr has been traveling around singing his songs ever since leaving Austin Minnesota in the 1980’s in search of Spider John Koerner, whom he found about 100 miles north at the Viking Bar one Sunday night. The experience changed his life, made him more or less unemployable, and brings us to now: 13 recordings, 250 shows a year or more, 200,000 miles on a well broke in Kia, and a nasty fear of heights. Resonator fueled folk songs from Duluth Minnesota.
March 29
Johnny & Molly of Communist Daughter (Saint Paul, MN): Johnny cut his musical eye teeth in the Twin Cities’ indie pop scene before life led him down a different path. Today, along with wife Molly, he infuses very personal stories into his music, ranging from somber subtleties to high peaks.
April 5
Liz Cooper & The Stampede (Nashville, TN): From the tender age of one to the invincible age of 23, Liz Cooper has been moving and traveling through America and through life to the beat of her own drum. Wanderlust has been in her bones since birth and it translates through her music and songwriting in it’s own unique way. Leaving behind her family, friends and college golf scholarship (yes, she can kick your ass on the links and do it with a smile), she hit the road and headed for Nashville, Tennessee, a place she has been calling home for the past 4 years. After wandering around Nashville for the first few months she eventually found her niche at Nashville Music House Studio. Not only is this where her first EP “Monsters” was recorded and mixed, but also where she met a group of friends to begin the full band experience. The Stampede consists of Liz Cooper on lead vocals and rhythm/lead guitar, from Atlanta, Georgia, Grant Prettyman on bass and native Tennessean, Ky Baker on drums. Predominantly playing as a three piece, Liz Cooper & The Stampede is a folk, psychedelic rock band who’s influences include everything from the sights, sounds and smells of the 60‘s and 70‘s to the sights, sounds, smells and all of the feels of today.
Jamie Kent (Nashville, TN): Kent was named on Rolling Stones’ list of must see acts at 2016’s CMA Fest. This rising Nashville troubadour is in the studio this summer working on his record with GRAMMY nominated producer Dave Brainard.
April 12
Carter Hulsey (Joplin, MO): Carter Hulsey, a Joplin, MO native, released his newest album, Drive Out, in 2014. Hulsey is known for his captivating live performances, a sound which cannot be captured in the studio.
April 19
Trapper Schoepp (Milwaukee, WI): Milwaukee-based country rock and roller who was hailed as a “master storyteller” by Huffington Post. Schoepp’s has appeared four times at Mile of Music (via solo and band appearances) and has also performed at other Mile Productions events.
April 26
Sam Trump (Chicago, IL): Sam Trump is a multi‐instrumentalist and singer/songwriter from Houston, TX. He not only sings, but plays the trumpet and ukulele, and is heavily involved in Chicago’s live music scene, where he’s known for creating an experience that is best described as sophisticated & soulful. On February 14, 2017, Trump released his EP entitled LOVE NOTES, which features 5 dynamic songs with rich vocal production, reminiscent of R/B & Soul music from an earlier place in time.
