One of the special things about Mile of Music, presented by Tundraland, tends to be the bonus interactive or immersion music events that occur during the weekend. A new event for Mile 5 that speaks true to what makes Mile of Music special, is set for Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Lawrence Memorial Chapel, and it involves ukuleles – LOTS of ukuleles. In fact, it’s a Ukulele Jam, with any-and-all uke players of all skill levels invited to participate.
The Ukulele Jamboree is led by Greg Forton of Forte and the Pianissimos, band director at Hortonville High School, and unofficial ukulele ambassador. Forton and his uke-loving friends – including a band of students from Hortonville High School who jam weekly during the school year – are inviting uke players and those with uke interests to go online and practice 10 songs ahead of the Ukulele Jam so they can play along during the 90-minute show. Those interested in participating or attending the Ukulele Jam can view the 10 songs at www.newukes.com.
The Pianissimos will also lead two ukulele Music Education Workshops during the Fest, one at The Grove on Thursday at 4 p.m. and the other at The Parklet at 3 p.m. on Friday. In addition to the MET Workshops and the Saturday Jam, the Pianissimos will also hold a showcase at the Lawrence Memorial Chapel on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Joining Greg Forton as members of Forte and the Pianissimos are: AJ Rahm, Andy Rahm, Bryant Rahm, Shannon Stout, Randy McSorley and Lee Nimmer.
