Talk about a rare opportunity
Robert Ellis, a Houston native singer-songwriter and one of the marquee names on the Mile of Music lineup, played an early evening set Saturday at the Lawrence Memorial Chapel to less than 20 people.
It’s not that Ellis can’t draw. Originally slated to play Friday night at X-tra 920, Ellis ended up not getting into Appleton until a little more than an hour before he took to the chapel stage. The makeup performance of course wasn’t in the paper schedule and so word didn’t exactly spread around that he’d be playing.
The gig was however listed on the Mile of Music app as of the early afternoon for 5:20 p.m. The show didn’t wind up beginning until nearly 5:45 p.m.
Ellis told the small (but polite and receptive) crowd that he last played on Wednesday and that it was for 10,000 people.
“This is a nice contrast,” he said with a laugh.
