Mile of Music is more than just music; it’s a mile of magnificent art created by amazing artists! Mile 3 will feature two art galleries; ‘Houdini in Art’ and the ‘Art Alley’.
John Adams, local coordinator of Appleton art galleries ‘The Draw’ and ‘Feather and Bone’, presents Houdini in Art as “a gallery for everyone just the way Harry Houdini would have wanted.” What better place than Appleton during the Mile of Music to honor Houdini’s rise and fall as an entertainer? Houdini in Art is being held in the former Harmony Café building (233 East College Ave) August 6th-9th and features an impressive array of 25 art pieces. The former Harmony café building on College Ave has special history for Adams as he played a large role of Cory Chisel’s first recorded album in the space seven years ago.
‘The Alley Project’ is another exciting event that will kick off at Mile 3 thanks to a Kickstarter. More than 60 online backers pledged over $4,000 to help bring ‘The Alley project’ to life. The support of the backers will beautifying the alley between Lawrence University and The History Museum at the Castle into an artistic mural that incorporates elements of active living.
The primary theme of the mural will focus on the pleasures associated with riding a bicycle and connecting people to nature. After Mile 3 ends the mural will stay up in the alley, for two years, through rain, shine and all the seasons! The new ‘Art Alley’ will also be a venue during Mile of Music featuring food trucks, beer, and an array of live music!
Come take advantage of a plethora of art forms at Mile 3 while supporting local artists and their galleries!
