“I believe that with Mile of Music being such a community-minded and community-backed festival, volunteering is a great way for the community to be involved and help shape our city and downtown into an even greater place.”
– IAN THOMSON, Mile of Music Volunteer Coordinator
With over 200 artists performing and 40,000 attendees expected for Mile 3, volunteers are an essential part of making the music happen. If you love Mile of Music, Appleton, or are even just a music fan, you can play a key role in this year’s festival! We will need 300-350 volunteers to make sure the festival goes off without a hitch, ensuring that everyone can enjoy Mile of Music weekend. If you are fun-loving, hard-working, and community-oriented, you will fit right in with our volunteer team!
Mile 3 has a wide range of roles to be filled to fit many different personalities, skill sets, and backgrounds. Want to get involved early? Apply for a pre-festival preparation role. Want to have a leadership role? We are in need of venue captains for each venue and volunteers in Houdini Plaza and Jones Park. If you love a festival atmosphere, being outdoors, and listening to great music, all while providing friendly advice and hospitality, these positions are perfect for you.
In addition, we also need stage hands and band volunteers who will get up close and personal with our artists. Stage hands and band volunteers’ jobs are to make sure the artists have the best experience Appleton can offer, along with assisting with gear and stage set up. If crowded venues really aren’t your thing, but you still want to be a part of the music, no worries! There’s room for you at Mile of Music Festival HQ at the Artist and Music-Maker lounge. Festival HQ is where all the behind the scenes action happens – we will be checking in artists, giving directions, and making sure the gears of the festival keep turning.
The Artist and Music-Maker lounge is where our musicians and music-makers can spend time relaxing and interacting with each other. Volunteers in these roles provide information and assistance to artists and attendees alike, steering festival-goers in the proper direction. We are also searching for friendly, outgoing people to be festival roamers as part of our “Street Team” who will walk amongst the crowds offering assistance to musicians, answering questions for attendees, and making The Mile a friendlier, more hospitable place. Other integral volunteer positions include providing transportation for the artists and assisting with merchandise. With such a variety of roles to choose from, we promise your volunteer experience at Mile of Music will be unique and exciting regardless of where you work!

We couldn’t make the festival happen without the help and support of our dedicated volunteers. Volunteers work shifts lasting about 4-6 hours in length, and the rest of the day will be yours to enjoy the music. Furthermore, volunteers receive special perks before and after the festival! Please join us as a Mile 3 volunteer this August, and know that you make a difference not only in the festival, but in the Appleton community! Click here to apply and we will let you know your assignments and schedule by the middle of July.
Stay tuned for more announcements as we get closer to Mile 3. We’ll be bringing you continued lineup updates, new features for this year, and additional information on other exciting summer events! As always, you can find all the latest Mile of Music news and updates by joining our email list, as well as following us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
