50 Additional Artists Announced for Mile 9!

Posted May 6, 2022
Blog

Ten days after the “First 50” artists were announced for August’s Mile of Music Festival, organizers have released the next 50 artists of the 2022 lineup. This year’s festival – Mile 9 – is set to take place August 4-7 in Downtown Appleton.

Willems Marketing & Events, which created and has produced the free, multi-venue, all-original music festival since its inception in 2013, announced plans for the return of the ninth annual festival on April 26.

This second grouping of artists brings the total number of announced acts to 100, which is approximately half of the total number of performing acts planned for the festival. Today’s announcement consists of 16 acts that will be playing at the festival for the first time and 34 returning acts. In keeping with the recent Miles, the artists are coming from all corners of the country, with the announced lineup now representing 20 states and two countries (United Kingdom and Canada.)

Additional artists will be announced throughout the month of May and into mid-June. Organizers have noted that nearly 40 percent of the full lineup will have Wisconsin ties. Mile of Music is one of the more unique large music festivals in the country for many reasons, but two of the most important are that the event shines the spotlight on and celebrates indie music artists who are not household names (but could be) while also being free to music fans. In the true spirit of community, this allows attendees to easily access and discover new artists and make life-long connections.

In all, Mile 9 is expected to host 700 live music sets over the four-day schedule with more than 200 artists and music education presenters sharing their talents and teachings.

In the coming weeks, Mile of Music will also highlight their community sponsors, collaborators and partners who come together to make this special event possible. Organizers also plan to launch their volunteer sign-up platform prior to Memorial Day.

Here are the 50 artists announced by Mile of Music today (May 6), along with their home communities:

Is Katie Pederson from Ann Arbor returning for MOM2022 ?
    Thanks so much!

    • Mile of Music Festival says:

Hi Mary! Thanks for reaching out. Katie won’t be at Mile 9 this year. (Trust us, we’d love to have everyone back!) We appreciate and understand the fact that artists who have played at the festival have built a fan base here in our region and attendees would like to see more of that artist. It’s a humbling feeling to realize that the 1,000 artists who have played Mile of Music to date want to return, and their fans want them to return. We strive to bring artists who you don’t know but should, while mixing Mile alumni into the lineup as well. It’s great for us to know you like Katie so we can keep her in mind for future festivals and other events, too.

  • Kris Gerhardt says:

I thought the original intent of mile of music was to highlight local talent. I see less and less local talent and many more bands being brought in from other states. We have so much talent here in the state that is not being promoted.

    • Mile of Music Festival says:

Hi Kris! Thank you for your support of Mile of Music over the years. Since Mile 1 in 2013, our goal has been to shine the spotlight on local, regional, national and now even a few international up-and-coming artists (or artists you may not know, but should) and feature them in Appleton. Once we’ve announced all of the artists for Mile 9 (around mid-June) this August, we’ll have 35-40% who will have Wisconsin ties. Keep in mind we still have a few more artist announcements to go! We are always keeping an eye on local talent, and often feature them in our year-round events that supplement Mile of Music’s mission. We appreciate your comments and questions very much! Drop us a line at any time.
