We’re excited to share the second Roundup of 2021 with you and we have loads of new music to share this time around! We’re shifting the focus away from having the New Music Roundup being monthly because there is so much great content for us to share and we think the NMR deserves to be more often than that! 😊 Give us a heads up if you know of a Mile alumni with fun content coming out (music, albums, podcasts, new projects, etc.)
Reminder: NMR is intended simply to share information and updates with you from Mile of Music artists and is not intended as an endorsement of one project over another. It is your option to consider interacting with links or supporting artists.
Rooster Blackspur (formerly Moody Little Sister – Mile 7)
We confess, Rooster Blackspur’s new song, “Big Dipper” is a beautiful song about being away from a loved one, but don’t take our word for it…take a listen!
Ben Shaw (Mile 6)
In February, Shaw released “Quarantine Bridge,” which details the struggles many of us have experienced in the last year since COVID-19 changed our lives.
Fort Frances (Miles 1, 3, 6, 7)
Fort Frances has released a couple of great, hopeful tunes throughout the last few months, and their newest song, “Fits and Starts,” is no different! You might even find yourself dancing along to the awesome video animated by a Brazilian artist-friend of David McMillin’s. 😊
Flagship Romance (Mile 6)
Though they’ve released multiple songs off of the album, Flagship Romance’s full album, Eccentric, is here! As Shawn & Jordyn say…Get Your Dance On & Party Like it’s 2021!
Carter Hulsey (Miles 4, 5, 6)
As we mentioned in the last roundup, Carter Hulsey’s new album will be out this May! In the meantime, he’s released another single from the album. Curious where the name came from? Hulsey is from Joplin, MO.
Hulsey also shared a song, “Being from Texas,” for his friends & family in Texas after citizens of The Lonestar State (Hulsey’s birth state) suffered during the recent massive winter storm. You can download the song (for free) and make donations on his website here.
B. Lilly (Miles 6 & 7)
The Lawrence University and Mile alum released “Dear America” (featuring Opal Staples) on the last Friday of Black History Month. (B. Lilly says the song was even written in his dorm room at LU!) The song details experiences in his life as a young Black man in America.
Long Range Hustle (Mile 7)
Long Range Hustle’s newest song, “Comeback Kid,” dives into the search for meaning and explores the feeling of longing and heartache. (LRH is right…very fitting for the times for many of us!) That said, it has a toe-tapping vibe that certainly made us miss the environment of a live-music Friday night!
Arts Fishing Club (Miles 2, 3, 5, 7)
“Horizon Eyes” is the newest tune from Arts Fishing Club and it’ll make you want to crank it up and roll down the windows (well…you might have to wait a few weeks on the window thing)!
Them Coulee Boys (Miles 6 & 7)
Them Coulee Boys launched a Kickstarter towards their upcoming album, Namesake. They’ve already hit their initial goal (woohoo!) but are aiming to raise more dollars to assist with promotion & growth. Awesome news for this Wisconsin-based band! Oh, and of course we’ll put the album on the New Music Roundup when it’s released. 😊
Visit their Kickstarter page here.
Bartees Strange (Mile 7) on NPR’s Tiny Desk
Bartees Strange just keeps right on rollin’! On the heels of his Late Night with Seth Meyers appearance, Bartees & band participated in a Tiny Desk (Home) Concert with NPR. It’s definitely worth the watch.
With nearly 1,000 alumni from the Festival, Rhythms & Brews and the Courtyard series, we do our best to keep up with everyone. Feel free to help us out – if you know a Mile artist that is coming out with new music (or ANY other content) in March (or anytime in 2021), give us a heads up!
Love the new music but struggle to locate the playlist on Spotify. Can you help?
Michigander has a new EP out as of Friday March 19. It’s fantastic.
Calico Jim by Pony Bradshaw was released last month
Matthew Szlachetka’s new album is available by ordering from him. He’s releasing singles now
I’ve got both albums and they’re great!
